I don't know if I'll make a habit out of it or not.
i put a little tube of dope in my tool bag for such occassions. it helps in a pinch.

Masters pro-dope always works for me, it is the stuff with the teflon.

I have tried the key tite and thought it was junk.

Not trying to knock what works for you, I personaly did not like it, seemed too dry, maybe I just had an old can or bad stock.

Threads on thread sealant is how I found the Ridgid forums.

It has been 10 years since this thread began, and not only does that add a decade more experience, it also may have added a decade of innovation in chemistry that leads to new products like improved pipe sealants.

Now, in 2019, I ask the same question as the OP.

Pipe Dope. What kind do you use, what applications do you use it on, and why?

I was given a small can of dope called "Venom" as a sample. It's green. I really like it. Goes on smooth, even when threads are a little wet. I just found a link online which is good because none of the supply houses here carry it (yet)http://www.jb-products.com/product/v...ead-sealant-2/

We buy white Teflon slick tite dope by the 55 gallon drum which works well enough for our craft. I wish they would buy Rectorseal 5 which I feel works really well for steel pipe. Downside is it starts to dry out if it sits for long. Key tite is excellent as well but it really depends on what your doing as BobD wrote.

We use Blue Monster dope followed by 2-3 wraps of Blue Monster tape. Seems to work best for us.

We don't stock BM products but I use the tape at home, it's an excellent product.
