  • Propress swivel jaws

got a chance to use my new propress swivel jaws to install a circ. pump in a tight spot next to a water heater.

the old grundfos pump was a 2 bolt flange. the new one is a union design. unfortunately the pump only had a 6'' space between the wall and heater. so after cutting the copper off, i had to rejoin the 1/2'' copper onto the union connection.

the new swivel jaws fit the propress 100-b and allow it to pivot like a universal joint on a socket set. the compact set actually goes up to 1.25'' pipe. which is an increase over the standard 1'' capacity non swivel jaws.

so with the laws set there is little that can't be accessed. between the head rotating 90 degrees and now the jaws swiveling almost 180 degrees you can get into the tight spots.

a great feature is the spring loaded jaws that will snap onto the pipe and stay there until you need to press with the actuator.

there is also a larger set for the 320, 330, 400 propress to 2'' and then the xlc set from 2.5''-4''.

soldering was not an option, unless i wanted to drain a 2 story house with dual 40 gallon heaters.

    rick.

special thanks to joey for a belated christmas gift

Who needs to solder when you have $4,000 tied up Propress equipment?

I think Rick just doesn't ever want to solder anymore now that he has his press tool.

        To each his own though.

          i wish it was $4000.

          maybe in fittings alone

i have the following propress tools
          1- 100 b
          3- 320
          1-400
2 sets of xl jaws 2.5-4''
1 set of swivel jaws for the 100.

but then again i still have copper cxc fittings up to 6'' that are sitting for the right job. along with a copper vic roller.

when is the swap forum coming on line

soldering would have required to shut off and drain the 2- 40 gallon heaters from the 2 story house. the check valve does not hold 100%.

plus everyones got a turbo torch. not too many have swivel jaws

Swivel jaws next for me. I like the benefit of 1.25" with the compact machine.

the built in ball valves on the flanges/ unions are junk. they work for the first month then freeze.

this is a single family home. with an average of 10 years on a grumpfos, i don't see an issue with no valves.

the pump i changed on a job yesterday was a 15/18su from 1993.

commercial applications, valves are great. single family homes, not really important.

there is an aftermarket flange with built in ball valves with real handles that are good. but they fit the flange pumps, not the union style.

Crack, what Rick meant to say is that he is a closet EBAY user. He thinks I don't know about any of the stuff he has bought over the last year and had sent to our friend's shop.

bill, you want to put some cash or a milk shake on that statement

and the reason why i get stuff shipped to my buddies shop is because he's there during the day while i'm out working. the post office sucks. if i don't go there to search for a package, they can't find a large package.

so put your money, or my shake on the line. i'll take that bet

                              rick.
