Hard to stand by something that has a 50 year warranty but has not been around that long. I use my propress for exposed pipeing like back flow, water heater installs. But i would never put in a wall or underground. Let me give you example Rick, if the whole house is propressed and the water never shut off for 50 years I agree that chances are there will be no problems. But say its a rental and the home owner cant get someone to rent for 3 years and the water main is shut off. Those o-rings are going to dry out with no water touching them for so long and then the owner finally rents it out you turn the water on there is a good chance there will be leaks. That aint gonna happen with copper.
considering the maker of crimp fittings is "viega" and has been around since 1899, that's 110 years. they're not going anywhere with their 2800 employees.
the press system has been used in europe for over 20 years now and the usa since 2000.
the biggest joke i read from repipe companies are the ones that offer lifetime warranties on their repipes. yet have only been in business for a couple years
joey's brother called me 2 days ago about a 8 unit apartment building that was repiped in 2002. second leak so far and this one did serious damage. the insurance company is going after the plumber for compensation.
p.s. i wasn't the plumber
how did i know without looking at it that it was on a hot water return line. lets just call it an educated guess. still waiting for either a picture or a crawl under to see the problem.
copper doesn't last as long on a circ system. but 7 years and 2 major leaks later doesn't fly. considering the original gal pipe lasted over 50 years with the same recirc system.
