  • Chippy Threads

Been using 47750 alloy steel dies & getting a lot of chips in the threads with some of the imported pipe. Would it help to change to the high speed steel dies, 47770? A friend threaded some of the same pipe on his threader ( not ridgid) & had no chipping. Don't want to buy new dies & not improve the problem. Could different cutting oil help. I've used Ridgid & brand x with no seeming difference.

    Re: Chippy Threads

alloy i reserve for hand threading and the high speed for electric machine threading.

both sharp dies and proper oil are key, especially with junk pipe.

if your friend is having good results with his equipment with the same pipe, then it's defiantly the dies and possibly the oil
