my new rigid pump with float switch only stays on for 6 or 7 seconds. Any way to increase the cycle time??

What does your owners manual say? Have a look HERE

My Guess Would Be That Your Sump Pit Is Too Small Or Too Shallow. Your Pump Puts Out More Water In 5-6 Seconds Than The Sump Can Hold. You Might Try Going Deeper Or With A Bigger Diameter, Both Sound Like More Shovel Work.

nah, there's still water in the sump when the pumps shuts off. Would be nice if it would just pump a few seconds longer. I'll probably take it back (lifetime guarantee) and try another one. Thanks.
