told you repiping was not the answer.

usually when a washing machine solenoid valve goes bad. the machine will continue filling. what machine allows the water to cross while the machine is off?

I was hoping it was the dip tube but was misled by the age of the heater

without wishing to appear too dumb, what is a dip tube and what function does it serve? thanks.

Plastic tube internal on the hot outlet reaches low in tank to maximize amount of hot water.

you dug up a 2 year old thread to correct that?
No, it's not rocket science, it's plumbing and unlike rocket science it requires a license.

                      Re: Totally stumped!!

Yup. I've been reading/researching for a DIY project -- about 300 threads worth here -- and came across an obvious incorrect statement, and for those who come behind me and try to learn how a dip tube works, I corrected it. Sometimes it's not worth correcting misinformation, sometimes it is. Small investment, small payoff.

Everyone slips up sometimes, there's no shame in that. But leaving incorrect info laying around is going to get someone in trouble. That's why I took the time to do a quick fix.

                      You're welcome.

In the last three weeks, I've spent about 30 hours reading old posts, so Mark, Rick, Robert, Adam, the dog, etc. all seem like old friends to me, even if they're not all around "now". Remember when Rick used to type in ALL CAPS? I just got done reading a bunch of posts by him back in '05 that are all-caps and my "ears" are ringing

Glad to bring back a blast from the past, Tool.
