  • Sweating a compression fitting

I got a free box of compression fittings. Stop valves for half inch pipe. I was wondering if it is also OK to sweat this type of fitting onto the copper pipe.

    Thanks

      Thanks

You don't list an occupation on your profile, but by your post I'm going to make the wild assumption that you are not a plumber.

i wouldn't do it, but it can be done if the valves are rough brass and not chrome plated.

a real solder joint has approx. 2 thousandths of an inch clearance. the compression sleeve you would remove to solder, creating a lot larger gap than a solder joint.

like i said, it can be done, but i wouldn't do it.
