    Thanks all for your help, after all this mess I ended up taking back the Ridgid sump ssp-1000 to HD and bought a Goulds pump from our local plumbing supply dealer, it was a bit more expense, but it is a MUCH BETTER PRODUCT. I am very disappointed with Ridgid support - or the lack of support I mean.

    Thank goodness for this forum to help people like me!

      If you install a "Single" rather than a "Duplex" receptacle then you don't need to worry about it being a GFI type. Be sure to change the cover too. You do not want a sump pump to be on a GFI because if it trips and you don't know it the pump won't run. It's stationary and not considdered a power tool.
