The ones I was joking about were called J-Hooks sometimes called nail-ons by a few guys that would migrate through our company back in the early nineties. The fully enclosed ones you and Robert are referring to aren't bad as long as you are away from the face of the stud far enough to where the drywaller can't reach your copper with a stray screw. The "C" style are unacceptable

Tube Talons I'm sure you all know work great during new construction and hold well.........

but give it a few years and every one of them will break/snap right off if you pulled that piping into position.

The job I was at yesterday had all the copper hanging by itself, all the tube talons were snapped off whether black or gray.

Those copper clad drive-in J-hooks are pretty reliable, always hold the piping tight.

I use the longer plastic/white J-hooks with numerous holes that are 6" long. You can use the nails that come with them or use screws.

Every time I use those drive-in metal wire hooks I always bend the tabs and it screws up the height I want them. They look purdy though.

                    Re: PVC vs ABS

                    In My Opinion Pvc Wins!

                    1) Less Sound, You Can Hear Water In Abs Draining In The Walls

                    2) Abs Is Crooked

                    3) I Was Sold After I Did An Abs Repair On A Dishwasher Drain In A Restaurant. Pipe Was Leaking Cut Out A Section Coupled In A New Peice Was On My Way. Two Months Later Called Back Did It Again. Another Few Months Another Call, The Pipe Kept Splitting I Know Each Fix Plus The Original Were All Different Lengths Of Pipe, Went From The Unit This Time + Ten Feet With Pvc Then Joined Together With Male Female Adapters Has Been Six Years Trouble Free.

Abs Is Made For Speed, No Primer Solvent Weld, You Have To Be Quite Careless To Fail An Air Test. That Is The Only Advantage Is A Chemical Weld In The Joint.

I was talking about the 3/4" x 6" hangers, that you install with a hammer.

The j hooks, nasty, nasty, nasty, I repair so many leaks with these.
