  • Check valve covering a cleanout

Why don't we use these to cover outside cleanouts instead of caps or plugs? This way if the lines back up, the cleanout will open up outside instead of backing up and flooding the house. The homeowner will see the water and call a plumber and no water damage(in theory). Of course the cleanout needs to be able to unscrew to get access to the cleanout. Any disadvantages?

A couple of decades ago we were putting them on.Then they started making us put in backwater valves.

    Contamination.

On an interior c/o.... well never mind that's not your point. On an exterior c/o cause it'll let gas out and stink. And i'tll just plug with paper and back the house up anyway, or fail and let cold air in to help the line freeze.
This is my reminder to myself that no good will ever come from discussing politics or religion with anyone, ever.

ben on an outside clean out that will not cause any damage, most of out here tend to leave a jim cap loose and alow it to pop off into the garden.

of course the homeowner needs to be aware of this and realize it's a stoppage.

Those C/O will never work in west michigan. builders, new home plumbers and homeowners insist on having the C/O under the dirt, so they can never be found when needed.
