  • Grooving 8" Sch.40

Does anyone know of a method to groove 8" sch.40 (Steel Pipe) in the air. I have 50 year 8" sch. 40 that is threaded and need to cut a grooved tee into. I cannot find an yone who makes a in-air groover that goes that high.

Groove what you need on the ground then take it up there and weld it in where you want.

we have a little but heavy roll groover bout as big as a shoe box for copper, and has metal wheels. has a tire iron or a socket to turn the machine around the pipe then you have to tighten another nut for the groove depth. dunno how much room u got but maybe better than getting a welder
if u cant bedazzle em with briliance, baffle em with bulls&*t

maybe i am misunderstanding your predicament. can't you just drill a hole in the line and use a saddle tee. that would be a hell of a lot easier. i'm putting in a ton of 8" sch 40 right now to. what a pain in the *** to get in the air. slow going. between the stairs and **** in the way it's getting to be ridiculous. what kind of equipment do you guys usually use to get that size pipe into your hangers. we are messing with chain falls and duct hoists

the ridgid #915 only goes up to 6'' on sch. 40 or 12'' on sch 10. these are roll groovers.

i have the similar victaulic model that's set up for copper and it works fine.

            Tri-tool or Wachs maybe?

            what about Victaulic?

This is a manual groover that can be used in-line. Comes up to 8" size.
Not a good option if you have a number of grooves to make but for one or two it fit the bill.
