  • Alrighty then, ANOTHER Quiz

No trees or roots involved here so save the snarky comments.

I've run into this three times over the last several years. Every time it has been an American Standard, probably a Cadet. I'll stop it with the first person that answers it correctly. Sorry, no cash prizes.

Toilet won't flush well. Not a good swirl in the bowl. Auger goes all the way through-with some difficulty (but hey, they all seem difficult once you hit 45 yrs old.). Cleaned the rim holes-no change. Thought maybe a vent problem (it wasn't) but no gurgling. Pulled the toilet, ran the auger through backwards. Nothing in the bend either. Everything else in the house runs fine.

    What's the problem?

Is the water level high enough? Did you check the siphon jet at the bottom of the toilet?

Does it have to do with being an American Standard vent away toilet?

I would say siphon jet to, maybe clogged with calcium buildup.

          one piece or two?

Does it have a tilt flush valve?

Someone dropped the foam float retainer down into the flush valve and its impeading the waterflow into the bowl at the jet.

Oh, and I've also found the knock out for the jet still rattleing around in the jet passageway in these same toilets.
            Just some FANTASTIC quality control!

If it's an American Std Cadet, I would bet my reputation on the jet at the front of the toilet being clogged. Without the jet the toilets just about useless. I know because I have one of the damnable things in my 1/2 bath. Threatened to toss it out the second floor window many times. Will one day, just you wait and see.

Not enough water in the tank. Refill tube stuck too far down the overflow causing the fluidmaster to siphon the water out of the tank?

Ok, sorry, my internet was down for a little while.

Toilets were not vent-a-way. I don't think they were tilt valves but it's been a year since I last saw this happen. Not the front jet. Nothing in the flush valve clogging it. Toilets were probably 20 yrs old. No calcium build-up. Not on the space station J.C.! AND NO RIVER BIRCH ROOTS!!!!

Something blocking flow after flush valve between jets

Municipal. Not a water pressure problem.
