In the spirit of DIY I thought I would post today's nightmare...

--Did you all know that 1/2" vega pex will fit inside 1/2" cpvc... The homeowner glued 1/2" pex into cpvc elbows and thread adapters.

--I was so shocked I did not even get pics but I have the repipe scheduled for this Friday so will post pics.

I will ask the homeowner which site he got his plumbing advice from...

OK I was just kidding on that last one but I will post pics Friday

Bill, you seem to always have the best hack pics. Looking forward to them.

      Re: DIY call

I deal with soooo much of it daily.

I guess thats why I stuck my nose in to that other thread... I'm pretty anti DIY though it is job security for me...

I have even told folks that don't have the money that I will help plan, make the materials list, show them how to primer and glue and will inspect before they close it in just to prevent bad work... Free of charge.
4 people in the last year have taken me up on the offer.

guys, i have seen a local shop that is notorious for ripping off people do pretty much the same thing.

        how do i know?

well i did my first and last trenchless pipe pull for them about 4 years ago.

they actually glued hdpe to abs

then when i called them on it, they said it was temporary

        temporary until when?
when it comes apart and roots start growing into it

        true story

Rick, I'm not familiar with the HDPE pipe that you pull. What is considered proper fittings & transitions?

it's pretty much the same material as the yellow hdpe gas pipe we butt weld.

the transition fitting would be a mission/ fernco band to connect to cast, clay, n.h, pvc/abs.

sdr 17 hdpe black is the pipe.

sdr 11 hdpe yellow is gas.

Okie...I think you meant 3/8" PEx inside the 1/2" pipe.

Too funny, the rediculous things people do thinking they're saving money or time.

Duck you may be right on that... I was at the house giving the customer a price on a new HVAC system when he decided to show me his handywork (I just took a peek inside the wall access). maybe it was 1/2" into 3/4"CPVC.

                I really was that shocked...

you know its pathetic, its so easy to do the right thing[if you know what that is] before i left michigan to move my yankee derriere to the land of heat and humidity a maintenance person tried to fix a gas leak with a dresser coupling, and after they swept the house off the pavement it was nothing short of luck the family was not at home, i for one could not live with myself if by my hand or by ignorance [which in our line of work cannot be tolerated] i was responsible for a loss of life or property. do it once and do it right or walk!!!!

If the secondary pan was sized properly this may have been avoided...

For GOOD reason, we have to sleeve our gas underground.
