  • Which Shower Pan to Replace?

    A while back I was doing a leak search in a Catholic girls college dormatory. {insert Catholic girl jokes here}

2nd floor bathroom has 6 tiled shower stalls, each used every day but mostly in the morning between 7am and 9am. Leaks into the commercial kitchen and dining area below. I suspect a leaking shower pan but the Head Mistress won't let me cut a hole in the historical tin cieling. I plugged the drains and filled each stall to leave overnight. The next day the trash can I set under the leak was full of black water

Which shower pan needed to be replaced?

Were they individual stalls or a "gang" shower?

Who said the shower was leaking, and not something else?

          It has rained here recently.

This job has been over for months. No more leaks from showers

Did I not mention this was a quiz?

That helps. So far you got me. Why would you replace a shower pan that holds a water test?

hint: why was the water black?

I think I might be clueless on this one. I can't think of why a shower pan that holds water would have to be replaced.
Or why the water is black. Galvanized butter.
Be good to learn what you learned though.

I have no idea what 'galvanized butter' is so you need to clue me in on that JC

For some reason my wife is online now, she might know the answer so I'll tell you before she gets it and makes you all look bad

I filled them with water then added a different food color to each hoping that if the water came through blue, or red or whatever I'd know right away which one was leaking.

They all leaked so the water that was in the trash can was black

Yea it was a lame quiz, I know

That was not good for me.

I call the black deterioration and waste in galvanized DWV "Galvanized Butter."

                          You're still alright though.

Staining of grout lines obviously weren't an issue.

It was the stall with the river birch.
