  • Tub & Shower Drains

If you have a tub & shower drain on the same drainage line, within 4' of each other at the common drain between the two, which is better to put at the low end of the grade? (Both are already vented properly)

    Thanks for all input.

If I understand you correctly I would go with shower upstream because it'll wash out the line better since it would be used more than a tub would be.

If I don't understand you correctly then I would have the tub upstream.

I think I would do it Ben's way unless I did it NorthernIllinoisPlumber's way.

60% of the time I would do it Ben's way everytime.

I would hook 'em up in order. If the bathtub's first, then I'd hook that up first. Just make sure to run downhill to the main.

I thought it was "60% of the time it works every time". I could be wrong, though. It's been a while, but I watched that movie about 121 times.

Ok knuckleheads, one of my local plumber friend and I were debating this. I said put the tub on the downhill end being it could carry a full 40 gallons draining at once. So it would have less, if any, effect on the shower & trap. Especially if they're being used at the same time. He said the opposite for some reason I can't remember.
