  • Lightning Strike? ( Pics)

I am still stumpped on this one.... I'm gonna guess lightning

This pipe has been in the ground for 50 years... I did not clean up the pipe in the photos except to wipe it off and the pipe looks perfect inside and out except for what is shown...

Please PLEASE tell me you're not going to use those couplings to the right.

I would use a heater hose from a car with a couple of hose clamps. Any good plumber knows you can't use a dresser coupling on copper, due to the fact that it is the wrong OD pipe size. Dresser couplings can only be used on galvanized and PVC. Good lucking making that temporary fix on copper with a dresser coupling. You might try a Qest coupling or some Sharkbite fittings, if you don't know how to solder.

he cant solder devine... its underground he has to braze it in this instance. or flare it better off with a braze though.

I would personally use a solder (due to the fact that I've never done any brazing) as a temporary fix to turn the water back on until the customer decided what he/she wanted to do. Time for a repipe if you ask me.

Slab plumbing is my worst nightmare. Full unfinished basements are a plumber's friend.

Are you sure a dresser will not work a temp fix as on copper Devine???

You may want to rethink your logic and contemplate how a dresser makes it's seal...

Normally, I'm not so crass as to drag someone else's name into one of my posts but in this instance it fit.

This brings up a good question at least for me. Anyone use a pipe slitter for water line replacements?

Not yet I just ordered one from Pollard Water, I have some 8" water main to run in the coming weeks so I will need to run drill some corps and i was planning to use the pipe splitter instead or digging up a bluestone sidewalk set in an 4" bed of concrete! Ill let everyone know how it works!
