  • Worms in Toilet???

I had a repeat customer that called today saying he has "worms" in the toilet which he believes is coming back through the trap. He is on the city sewer system and this is a bathroom that is used daily. Also, the house was built about 5 years ago & has PVC-DWV throughout and to the street about 40' away. The connection there is PVC-CI with mission band.

He counted about 15 worms. They are very neat & clean also.

    Any ideas & remedies?

He ruled out intestinal type worm throughout the family before he called.

Who is clean and neat, the worms or your customer. I would pull the toilet and reset it just for fun and then I would introduce a dose of "root x" and tell them to go away for the day so that stuff will stay in the line and not get washed away.No more worms.

Are they coming from inside the bowl, or under it? I can't believe a worm is crawling up the pipe and up thru the porcelain trap.

Are there or were there samll children in the house? Had one recently been taken fishing?

Those "worms" had to be some type of larvae hatched in the rim or under the toilet. I don't believe a worm, much less fifteen, (I don't think they travel in HERDS), would or could crawl up the sewer into and up the quarter bend and then through the trap with regular flushes of water and waste coming through. He's not telling you something pertinent.

I have seen worms many times when the toilet has a bad wax seal. It gets wet and disgusting under the bowl and it attracts worms. I have never seen them IN the bowl though.

My first thought was that of Service Guys.

The homeowner is picky but not nuts. Nice big house & always clean. I told him to snap a pic and email it to me before he flushed or did anything else. We'll see.
