Spoiled welder. porta band, 14" hilti gas, plasma cutter, 1 H.P. 7"x12" metal band saw.
14" chop saw= TOO MUCH NOISE
I can build anything You want , if you draw a picture of it , on the back of a big enough check .

a gas cut off saw is the way to go. the pipe is way to heavy to move it onto a chop saw.

if installed in a ditch and you need to make a field cut, 2 saws would be better.

one with the guard in the normal position and one with the guard upsidedown for the bottom part of the pipe.

wheeler rex also has a hydraulic snap cutter rated for both class 22 and class 26 cast water main.

                http://www.wheelerrex.com/catalog/Wh...Catalog_05.htm

it just so happens i have 1

personally, i've never tried anything except cast iron with it.

not sure if ductile iron is the same as class 22/26 water main.

all i know is that i had to destroy some old ductile iron pipe and all a sledge hammer did was bend it. it never broke.

If you try to cut ductile with a chain cutter you will break the chain. I"ve seen it done more than once,

I rented a gas saw for the cut (if needed). I also ordered a special blade. Thanks for the help! Goob...you like Avanti's?

Right now I'm using a 71/4" ferrous cutting"Tenryu" for steel. If one takes his time they last.Don't have the diamond for iron.
