  • Mustee, Swanstone shower bases ?

When you set these bases, and install the rubber gasket/doughnut, do you cover use silicone to help seal the drain? I see nothing mentioned in instructions, but I do. I smear it all over the gasket, then install it. Helps to ease the install as well. Just curious...

I think I've only used one of these "compression" shower drains once. I usually throw away the ones that come with the Mustee kits. I only use the glue type drains w/silicone in fiberglass shower bases as I feel they provide the best and the longest lasting seal.

I use the all-brass no-caulk drains so I don't have to worry about the plastic nuts breaking years later under strain.

I've had good success with the brass type and it allows for resealing if the putty goes due to flexing in the pan.

I have never liked silicone on anything.I guess it's a frame of mind thing.I think if had to put it on something I figure this would be one of the only times.
