  • Wanna have some fun?

Check out the professional services on Craig's List. See how many of these you can pull out and bag. I just had the following exchange with a dirtbag. You know damn well this schmuck is moonlighting with his bosses van, tools and probably stealing the stock also. I sent this entire exchange off to the head state inspector. She will give the doooshbag a call and put the old sting on him. He can say goodby to any license he may ever try to get in this state.

His text is black, mine in red. You have to read from the bottom up because I'm too damn lazy to re-format it.

You sir may contact anyone you wish. I am not harrassing you, I am pointing out that your add, which by the way you altered ( I have a cc of the original) is not legal in this state. Neither is plumbing and wiring without the proper license. You can say your intention is to solicit work from Mass residence but that does not make your advertising legal. Check the law. You can not advertise plumbing and or electrical services in this state without a license.

The letter you have below you have altered and my add on craigslist for NH states that I am licensed and insured in MA. I am not doing nor have I ever done anything illegal. I will be keeping these emails for my records, and once again the reason I post my add in NH is in case someone in NH has property in MA they can call me for the work. If you continue to harass me and send me emails I will be contacting my lawyer.

Where exactly in this ad does it say you are licensed in Mass? Furthermore, how about an electrical license? What you are doing is illegal. I will not be contacting you again but you can be pretty sure that the State Plumbers Board will be and the State Electrical Board also. I have forward this ad, to , (name witheld) the New Hampshire plumbers Board, head inspector. You can explain it to her.

I clearly state in my add that I am licensed and insured in the state of MA and I advertise in NH in case someone up there owns property in MA and needs me to do the work. There is nothing hidden nor illegal in what I am doing and further more it is really none of your business. Please do not continue to write to me.

You are advertising in NH and you can not pull permits or work without master supervision in this state.

I am licensed and insured in the state of MA. You can pull permits as a Journeyman in MA. Why?

And prey tell William, how does one go about pulling a permit with only a journeymans license in this state?

Because there are people out there that still think that they can get the moon and the stars on a dirt budget. And because they people "in the know" don't report the dirtbags.

Don't they share a media market though? So if I were a licensed company in Boston and I had an add in the paper or on a TV station delivered to NH, the state would be able to go after me?

[I'm not saying that he isn't doing something illegal otherwise, but I don't like big government either.]

in washington you have to be a licensed bonded and insured plumbing contractor to advertise and your business license has to be on all forms of print advertising. and you have to be a licensed journeyman plumber to do any plumbing work unless its your own home. you do not have to be a licensed journeyman plumber to own a plumbing company though you just need one to work for you.

I guess my problem is that it can be hard to define advertise in WA. If I'm advertising to perform services in WA, sure the state gets to regulate that. But if I'm not providing the service in WA, should the state get to say so.

Let's say NY passed a law saying you can't advertise gambling (because of course the state wants a monopoly on it). Does that mean if a NJ casino puts an add on a TV station that I get, that NY should be able to control them even though the transaction isn't happening in NY.

Isn't craigslist specific to certain cities or states. You go to craigslist Tucson or Boston etc... so your advertising should be for that city or state.
If there are licensing issues between jurisdictions you should not advertise services some where you are not allowed to work.

It isn't the same as broadcast radio or TV where you buy time and there is no control over who receives the message. They even will at time give you the "void where prohibited" fine print.

In NH you must post your license number on all advertising. If your advertisment crossed the boarder you have to say not licensed in NH. Just like the lawyer ad's do. I'll bet money that if I give him a call and ask for a quote on a NH job, the guy will be there in minutes. Hmmmmm
