same thing here, no bushings no unions! I dont know why gas co.s have their own set of rules.

They also self inspect. Telephone company's the same way. Even though they may be privately owned, they're still considered a "public utility".

To make it more interesting, the gas co in the Los Angeles area uses a plastic form of bushing but only at the meter location.

They self inspect here too. In and out... no waiting for the go ahead to bury lines.

Don't have to bring gas appliances up to code.

they don't need no stinkin unions, they just spin the whole appliance around to make the last connection.

                  Re: S.F. Plumbing amendment

Love left right couplings. Never unions in the building,or under a deck,I believe.
Of course the meter has two ground unions, many times in the building [ garage]
I was told today , it was felt bushings trap Debera. Gas is clean today,I;m told.

As I remeber it in SF you can not use bushings unless that particular fitting wasn't available, wich made bushings basically illeagle.

I was always told no bushings on gas. Then when I was in school for my masters my teacher who was the business agent for local 12 in ma. told
us we could use bushings it just says no cast iron bushings in the code
he also encouraged us to do it and challenge any inspector to show where
it says you can't,Needless to say I haven't tried it yet.

                            Pipe "crushes" to taper.
Bushing's thickness don't give thereby stressing the female fitting to possibly split at instalation or worse in the future.
