Re: Does anybody else do this?

No he is not missing a T&P valve. He only needs one on the tank. There is only one closed system shown. The tankless coil and the water storage tank are one closed system and no valves between them. Technically the one shown at the coil on the boiler is not necessary. The tank and the coil are not isolated by shut valves or swing checks, it is one system. See the attached on the Superstor site.

So the recirc must go through the tankless to provide the flow to turn the tankless on or does the tankless switch on some other way?

the problem we had up here was that the coil/tankless water heater couldn't keep up with the demand.

we had watts mixing valves but those seemed problematic.

the boiler where the coil is located uses it's own controller. when the aqua-stat on the storage tank calls for heat it energizes the circ pump. this circulates until the storage tank aqua-stat is satisfied.

one of the prblem with this set-up is that the boiler doesn't circulate the water around the coil.

What is the demand Vince? Guestestimated GPH.
          1 The coil maybe dirty?
2 See how long it takes to recover from out of HW.
3 What rating does the HW coil in the boiler have GPM. Your set up my be overdrawing the coil.
4 The swing check on the recirc line maybe back feeding or allowing water to leak back to the hot line.
5 Is the circ working, installed in the right direction? Did you amp it out if its a taco. Bronze pump? If CI housing is it rusted closed?
6 Try setting the boiler at 180 LL and 200 HL.

The aqua-booster setup usually works well. I have done many a Laundromat and Restaurant with a hot water heater and aqua-booster set up and always had enough hot water for the demand.
