  • Sealing a WC bowl to the floor

i've figured out that in some places it's code to put a bead of silicon around the bowl where it meets the floor.

but i'm also thinking from a HO point of view.

what if the WC leaks for some reason. maybe a hack installation. maybe a broken flange, whatever.

if it leaks it's going to cause damage because it won't be detected until there's a stain or smell.

    what are your thoughts.

I don't know if it breaks any codes or not, but I always leave the very back open just in case that exact thing happens.

It's code here , no caulking , no final ! Keeps out roaches

Keeps things from going under the bowl too.
Mop water, pee, subscription cards etc...

Easier to clean a bead of caulk than to have to run a brush around the open seam.

The bead also help reduce movement of the bowl.

i was just thinking that it would be kind of cool if there was a plastic tray with a rubber gasket that goes all the way around the bowl.

i realize each manufacturer would have to make specific shapes.

          just wondering

The caulking is there as a sanitary seal to prevent water from getting under the water closet not the other way around.

We used unsanded grout it on tile floors and silacon based water clean up
              caulk on other surfaces.

Knowing how critical some can be on this forum, I wanted to be sure on this one before I posted a pic.

Looks like someone cut the whole end off the caulk tube instead of just the tip!

This is an employee bathroom at the local grocery store, I think one of the cashiers did the job, or maybe the boxboy.

Did I not read a post on this forum recently about someone using plaster of paris to not only seal around the bottom rim but instead of the wax ring? Has anyone else had experience with using this? Thanks, David
