  • Ipex water piping

Has anybody seen or heard of IPEX pex tubing? This pipe has an inner plastic liner and lead like liner and pex on the outside. I looked at a condo the other day that has this stuff in it. The condo is not finished and they had me to give a quote on finishing it up. It is a new construction bank repo. The problem I have encountered is no one in my town uses this pipe, so I can't easily get fittings for it. It also uses a different crimper than what I use.

It sounds a lot like you have got some kitec piping going on. 2 pex layers with an aluminum core. They have discontinued manufacture ot this product and most wholesales have gotten rid of all stock including fittings which is hell when you need to get in there and repair some of the stuff.
http://www.deltamechanical.com/page/kitec.html this link has some info about kitec which is why I included it, I know nothing of the company sponsoring the information.

There seems to be some class action goin on around kitec, funny thing is Ipex seems to have removed all mention of it from their website from what i can see.

IPEX PEX ID is unique to IPEX PEX and no other PEX fittings will fit.

for 1/2 inch kitec you can use pex fittings and crimprings and crimping tool, I have done this in a pinch. all other sizes require proper fittings designed for that pipe and the kitec crimping tool. so at least in half inch you can transition to pex somewhat easily if you have to. This is not an approved method by mfr. specs but what you gonna do?

Same issue-- Blue Ipex, home build in 2003 and there is a elbow leaking in the attic... 3/4" pex ring is to small to fit over the pipe, 1" pex ring is way to big.. Im lost and have not found any info on the internet that I have found to be positive.....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A supplier posted here recently saying they are making fittings that will work. I will see if I can find the post.

                      Re: Ipex water piping

Thank you all for your help.. However, I have yet to find a proper solution to my problem. Everyone I call seems to lead to another dead end with this product. Tomorrow morning I will be attempting a repair with a set of galvanized compression couplings with the theory that just maybe I can use them for a transition. I hope this works.

He is trying to repair a leak with the proper fittings. ToUtahnow is only trying to help.

No, it's not rocket science, it's plumbing and unlike rocket science it requires a license.

3/4 Ipex OD is close enough to the OD of 3/4 Steel or PVC to where I was able to use a Galvanized Compression coupling as a transition and complete a repair.

I was going to suggest a shark bite coupling if the od. was that close .
