$30.00 a year was pretty steep in 1888. Compare:

Do any of you pay close to $700.00 a year for just your plumbing license?

If you add up all the city business licenses one might have to purchase the number can be in the hundreds.

$25 a year for my Journeyman license. Of course, that's only good for one city, no one else within about 70 miles requires a license... I keep meaning to write my state representative about that.
No, it's not rocket science, it's plumbing and unlike rocket science it requires a license.

We don't have any licenses but the masters here, and I am not sure how much it is.

I think our master license is the same price, The City of Springfield Missouri is one of a handful of areas in Missouri that require a license, we don't have a state license, i'm not sure about ST. Louis, but I keep hearing that it's all union in that area.
That said, i'd love a statewide tested license like Springfield has, but at the moment it doesn't seem to be in the works.

Someday how the hell do you pay so little? Is that a restricted license ie: Drainage or similar or is Queensland less regulated?

My God I am living in the wrong state to practice as a licenced plumber in Victoria for one year it costs me around $800.00 for my plumbers insurance which you have to have first before you have the honour of paying $250.00 for my plumbers licence so all up over a thousand dollars a year.
