  • hose bib whines

I have a frost free hose bib (a year old). Everytime time i turn it on it makes a whining noise in the house---very loud. Anyone experience this? Could it possibly be a bad vacuum breaker?

It could be a loose bib washer on the stem.

loose washers typically cause a chatter sound and or it will pulsate.

a whine is typically a vacuum breaker that has been dead ended.

does it only whine when you have it turned on and the end of the hose shut off so it's dead ended?

it only happens when i turn the hose bib on, it has a sprayer at the end of it. I have 2 of these and the other one is fine, the noise is so loud inside that you can hear it in my backyard. Thanks for the replies

stecar..have you pulled the stem out and checked if you still get the whine...
If it still whines with the stem out take a piece of ground wire and poke back into the pipe through the faucet with the water on... and see what comes out
if it didn,t whine when you pulled the stem out...
take the vac breaker apart and clean it... thats if yours comes apart
