  • State power vent water heater

I've been working on a State Power vent 75 gallon water heater off and on for a month now.

It keeps going into system lockout. It attempts to fire 3 times, actually lights for about 2 seconds every time, then shuts down and tries again. after the 3rd time it hits the lockout.

My first thought was the flame sensor, so I cleaned it up a bit, and bent it more towards the fire, that worked for about a week. Next I replaced the flame sensor/hot surface ignitor assembly. This didn't help at all. So I replaced the gas valve. Problem solved... for 2 weeks or so. So they called back today, exact same issue. I've checked manifold pressure, inlet pressure, checked pressure drop. Checked the power from the outlet.
And finally spent an hour on the phone with tech support. Went through all the same crap over again, and they determined I replaced a bad gas valve with another bad gas valve.

Tomorrow a new Bradford White is pushing that scrap pile out of the way.

Just wanted to gripe for a minute.
