  • New way to join PEX

Went to a job today, guy called and told me on the phone that he just installed new PEX tubing and everytime he turned the water on it took about 5 seconds and a joint blew apart. Thinking his crimpers might be out of adjustment I showed up on the job and to my suprise found all new PEX tubing glued into CPVC fittings with purple primer and PVC cement, everything right from the meter all the way up to the second floor bath. He told me this is the way the associate at Home Depot told him to do it.

He probably misunderstood the guy. I'm sure what the person at Home Depot said was to run the water lines with CPVC, but to join them with PEX fittings. That makes a lot more sense.

I ended up redoing the whole thing. There were a couple of pieces I could salvage but it kinda liked like the purple primer monster attacked everything.
