Yes it uses a pump to drain it. It has a total of three pumps, one for jets, one for air and one for the drain. The drain pump is not overly powerful and did not cause any oscillation issues with any of the traps. Fortunately this house was plumbed well. It did cut the drain time down ⅔.
The diverter valve was luckily right behind the front panel which made it easy to access. However, if anything on the other side leaks, I'll be ripping off siding. The diverter valve is installed at the factory.
