    Bad PB pipe under slab

Hook up pipe to new roll of Pex and go find the other end...

Dig out the other end and start the pull from the inside out...

    SNAP!!!!

Decide I better expose the line where it comes out of footer and see if I can find another spot to connect to (and pull from)... I then see why I can't pull the pipe A root has decided to fill the 3" PVC footer sleve and crimp the lines...

This house is 14 years old, I have never seen this happen

2.5" Root has grown in the middle of the three waterlines WTF!!! ( bad line has the blue rubber glove sticking out of it)

Tomorrow I get to jackhammer this customers bedroom floor to try and cut the other side of this root and get it out so the replacement pipe will pull....

    Wish me Luck

    To Be Continued.........

That is how they were repiping the island sinks in Las Vegas homes with Kitec in them.

            Well, The job is done....

Ended up with almost a complete repipe. The root was not gonna pull.

Here is a view of the pipe after I gave up pulling and decided to cut the ends and drill everything out.

Here is a view of a piece of the root mass

You should cut a few slabs off that piece of wood. Sand'em, varnish'em, and turn'em into coasters for beer cans.

Owner decided to keep it and put it on his wall for what he paid for it

What's the process for pulling the new pex?

-Find both ends of the PB Pipe
-Verify that the PB pipe is in a HDPE liner thus able to be pulled
-Run a fish tape through PB to make sure there are no fittings connected to the line under the slab (There should not be any connections under the slab but sometimes someone makes a bad choice)
-Crimp on a PB to PEX transition coupling and a roll of PEX.
-Push from one end and pull from the other (Soap the Pex as you feed it into the sleve)

I have pretty good luck pulling new lines under slabs. Sometimes it just won't work though so I always prep the customer for it. In a pinch you can even try to push a smaller line through a larger line
(3/8" Pex through 1/2" PB ect...)

If none of these work it is time for a full on through the attic repipe...

What about freezing? Attics are cold here in Mich, not Indiana?
Any code issues with running pipes in attic?
