It appears that the sewer was tied into the neighbors line as a cost savings many years ago ( Per The neighbor) , Looking at the video I tend to agree though I'm having a hard time seeing the layout in my head by watching the video.

              Yes, All 4"

There is no doubt that the customer has an issue at 31', I'm guessing it is an offset clay joint at the point where it ties into the neighbor.

hmmmm I actually see a fair # of sewers around by me.

Back in the day, people used to buy big lots and put up 2 homes with a shared sewer.

I see an awful lot of clay tees on their side in these and other situations.

How deep is it do you think?

3'-5' is my guess, I left my scout at home in the garage.... I forgot since I have a camera now it would be a good idea if I keep it on the truck

Now it works. Before I got a message saying there was an error and to try later so I went directly to YouTube and got the same message.

That's pretty shallow. Sounds look a dig to me. That would be about the only way to confirm exactly what is going on there. Unless you can get a cable to that spot from your customers house and then try to camera/locate from the neighbor's house? I've done that on a couple of common sewers. That would at least confirm or negate the common sewer idea.

Would public works have any records to help shed some light on the situation?

Not trying to offer unsolicited advice, just offering my $0.02

This sounds like a fun one!

At least everyone gets along on this one... The last shared one I had was the Hatfields and Mcoys (que Banjo music). I was told under no circumstances was I to come on his property to in any way help his SOB neighbor

Who would have thought a case of Natural Lite Beer could fix a sewer...

My office sewer is connected to the neighbors, which keeps me from installing an illegal dump for my septic trucks!

Whenever we run into a shared sewer here we are required to inform the homeowners that it will have to be fixed where they each have their own individual sewer. The last one we did ended up with a big fight between the ho's and both of them were sob's and pita's. All their utilities were all tied together including gas and water. What a mess. We had to get the city sanitary dept involved in it and we had the police there as the ho's were making threats to each other. As of the time I left that company I was working for at the time it had not yet been resolved.
