  • Painting Old Rusted Gas Pipes

I remember seeing this once on some automotive show. Claimed to bond very well to rusted metals. (Not cheap. Good stuff never is though)

Got me thinking.... Anyone ever use it on rusty & exposed pipes you may have come across?

Never heard of it. May be a great product

As for gas pipe, I will trust a new pipe section before a coat fix.

            Payback for what?

And to tell you the truth, I don't think I've ever come across a galvanized gas installation here. Always due to tradition and price, not performance. At one time there was the "flaking" controversy but I believe that has long been lifted as chemical content has changed at the delivery point.

But I do come across exterior pipes that while they still maintain their integrity, show some rust through the paint. And others where the paint is just about gone.

Had me wondering about this product. Heard great things about it over your standard Rustoleum.

Can't use galvanized pipe for gas in Toronto.

Sounds like a good product, except for the fact that they say you have to put a protective coating on it, if it's exposed to sunlight. 2 step process takes a big bite into labor costs on a roof top gas line.

Galvanized pipe for gas is illegal here also. Is Ca. the only state that allows galvy for gas and why?
