Every flange has different needs for a good seal
Plastic Stack flanges help me with the low ones

      are your closet bends 3'' or 3'' x 4''

99% of our closet bends are 3'' x 4''. therefore the 4'' horned ring is what i use. when i see a 3'' closet bend out here, it tells me the plumbing was not installed by a plumber.

are 3''x 4'' closet bends not the norm with the rest of the country?

i know that angle stops that are a 1/2'' slip joint riser are a west coast thing while 3/8'' od comp is the norm with the rest of the country.

Re: New type of wax ring??

Once in awhile I run into a 4" cast iron closet bend.

My area has a TON of newer homes, so it's all 3".

You have to remember that we have basements here, and not slabs.

I seen the wax ring gear junkie posted in this thread(3"), and a TON of 4x3 horn wax rings.

If it's not the tile guy, or a handy man, it's the home owner resealing their own toilets with these horned wax rings they get from home depot, and that's where the problem is out here.

Home owners read the directions on the box
I Always set my wax on the flange first
          Then place the toilet

I laughed about those directions even as an apprentice. Can you imagine the poor DIY HO resetting a wc? Pulling the wc turning it on its side, water going everywhere, flipping it back up right, then trying to reset it n the flange only to have the wax slip off. LOL.
