In short, no 2" pipe horizontally through any studs.

Just informing for those this applies too so you may avoid some headaches.

Pretty sure 2x6 would be ok. For me, it's almost never encountered and the framer has long gone.

          Re: IPC-Boring Sideways

I'm sure the intent of the code is concerned with not undermining the structural integrity of a 2x4 studded wall with 2.25" bore holes all through it.

I bet if we look at notching it will clarify ( I gotta find my new IPC...lol)

I don't feel like going back to the shop to get my code book, but it's very interesting to say the least. I'll have to look at it tomorrow.

I thought it was no more than 40% of a structural stud and 60% of a non-bearing stud.

I don't recall the code section, but you can't bore out more than 60% of the stud, some inspectors would let it slide with 2 inch if we doubled the stud.
a 2 and 9/16 would only be 46% of a 2x6 stud "If I mathed right" so that would be legal.

No, it's not rocket science, it's plumbing and unlike rocket science it requires a license.

When were we allowed to bore a 2" pipe through a 2x4 stud wall??

Yes, if the wall is non load bearing

Found mine today. Always accidentally would run into the old book though.
