  • Running gas lines on flat roof.

I use ground couplings in sections. that way piping can be removed for roof repairs.
recently re roofed a flat roofed home. 1 st thing I did was remove all the gas up there and replumb with ground couplings. Any one else do this? Just ran about 90 feet of 1" Galvy with couplings. New fire pit, gas log, barbecue.
I can build anything You want , if you draw a picture of it , on the back of a big enough check .

Have to ask. What's a "ground" coupling? Does it have a set screw for a ground wire or something like that? If so, why not just ground the pipe?

are we talking a ground union

typically unions are only allowed at the fixture and meter. but a ground union is allowed outdoors.

Ground coupling as opposed to a merchant coupling?

Last roof line I did the inspector made me paint the line

All lines here painted yellow. Not just stickers.

Did you use galvanized pipe or did I misunderstand? Galvanized is non legal for gas here.

Re: Running gas lines on flat roof.

I think there is still alot of confusion concerning galvanized fittings...

What most of us were taught is that we do not use galvanized pipe for Natural gas services as the zinc flakes off of the pipe and will clog up gas valve orifices...

That advice still holds true for "Hot Dipped" Galvanized pipe and fittings but times they are a changing, no longer is hot dipped galvanized the only product available on the market. It is these new products that are well suited for gas service specifically "Electrogalvanized" products (zinc electroplating)

The spangle on Zinc electroplated metal does not exist as it does on hot dipped products so you do not have the zinc to flake off and cause the clogs associated with Hot dipped products...
