      I'm first generation.
      What about all you guys that got your Uncle/Dads/Grandpa's handed over.
      They were King's of improvision.

        You're right.

        I remember a couple of customized 24" Ridgid wrenches from the days of durham. They'd slide a piece of 2" L copper over the end and pound a dent in it that lined up with the groove on the wrench. That way it could slid back and forth. Retracted for regular work, extended when a little leverage was called for. Since I used one into the '90's, I can vouch for it's handiness.

        They made another handy tool for pounding together bell and spigot pipe and fittings using rubber gaskets. They would stick a piece of 3/4" gal into a 1 lb coffee can and pour lead around it and strip off the can. Slop on the Crisco with a brush and start pounding those fitting together without fear of breaking anything.
