About three, I do seal around the base of the water closet with putty. I clean the flange off set the water closet with out the putty first, then take my pencil and trace out the outline of the water closet. Then I lay my putty seal on the flange and then run a bead of putty around the traced line.
Wouldn't putting the putty on the toilet 1st save the step of having to trace the shape of the bowl?
Show me soft putty, and I will show you the container it came out of hiding behind your back. In my entire plumbing career, I have yet to come across soft putty in the field. That crap even goes bad in the container it comes in for crying out loud. Why on earth would you use a product you KNOW is going to go bad 100% guaranteed?
