  • ? schedule 80 ball valves

I'm using ipex sch eighty ball valves with unions either side on this sewsge press im attempting to plum, its been interesting anyways just curious why do these ball valves have a dirrectional flow arrow on them this may be a very rookie question but im just not sure why a ball valve wouldnt close either way?? I ran into this before luckily theres unions both sides which makes changing them quite easy. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated thanks seanny

the only thin i can think of is there is an adjustment on one side of the ball valve ,you put that side on the non pressure side so you can take apart the union and adjust the nut that rests on the ball

I think Hawk is right....its like a built in check valve....

Took one apart today both sides appear the same but if there in backwards they dont hold back the pressure ? Think i might call the manufacturer?

Re: ? schedule 80 ball valves

If i'm thinking about it right, the ball rests in a seat, and if you have it facing the right direction the supply side pressure would apply force on the ball to press it into it's seat when the valve is closed. if you reverse it you could end up with a slight seepage around the ball because it is being forced Out of the seat.
No, it's not rocket science, it's plumbing and unlike rocket science it requires a license.
