    I'd go with the insert. I think the stainless will act as a "heat sink", and deflect and reduce the heat from the riser and no-hub coupling.

        What adhesive epoxy did you use?

          Loctite polyurethane construction adhesive. It's water proof and bonds to steel, plastic and the enamel coating. I took a grinder and scuffed up the enamel before applying the adhesive.
