  • Toilet bowl wont hold water

In 30 years of plumbing, I've seen this onlyonce and I can't remember the explanation. Toilet flushes normally. After the flush the bowl water drains away. The sewer is not plugged. I know about toilet bowls syphoning when the sewer is plugged and the vent is covered allowing syphonage. I even set the toilet on a bucket and watched it drain away. Where is the bowl bypassing its trap and leaking out? zelskid@hotmail.com

chances are the toilet has a split in the china allowing the water to escape. is this an old toilet or a new toilet
typically i find this on a new toilet. replace the toilet and you'll be fine.

I agree with Rick you have a crack in the trap of the water closet but it is out of view to you. Replace the water closet and go on to the next job.

I think a key piece of information may be wether the rough installation is new or existing. If it is existing, I agree with Rick and Utah. If it is new you may have a blocked vent.

Although, normally if you are dealing with the UPC the toilet would be individually vented and would not siphon completely dry, but would not allow enough water for a trap seal.

          dog,

The water closet drains while sitting on a bucket as well.

            Utah,

I missed that in the original post. Sorry.

I've been working too hard and too long lately.
