  • Dying Forum

    Fellow Plumbers,

This forum is dying. I remember when it was a great resource for contractors and foreman. Yea, there were some tense moments, but we had some great discussions. Important topics were considered. Technical issues were bounced around.

But in recent months it has degenerated into a Home Depot site. I think that Utah recognized it a while back when he pointed out that there was a two page (or was it three) thread on the best toilet plunger.

I haven't helped with my abrasive attitude, but I am who I am. If I contributed to the demis, I'm sorry.

I have tried to present alternative topics as of late, but I don't see much interest. I don't see anyone else presenting technical topics. What I see is a homeowner resource, which is not my bag.

It is important to note that contractors, plumbers, and foreman are the ones who buy Ridgid tools. That is why this forum was great for Ridgid and them.

What it has become is boring. I think that is why you see long time members posting less and less. It's a shame, damn shame, for what this forum once was.

I personally have found some new sites to post on.

    So goodbye.

I'll miss Rick, Bob D., Utah, and others.

dog, what you stated is true. that's why i asked you to keep up the new topics that you were tossing out there. i was hoping that you were asking others to jump in.

then came the closing paragraph. what do you mean that your leaving

you just made a good suggestion for others to start posting. hopefully it will start soon. give it a couple of weeks and let's see what happens

i've always looked forward to opening up this forum and see what's new. problem is my wife,(mrs. seat down) will beat me to it. sometimes while she's at work. when she logs in under my acct it causes me to lose the new post feature. so this means that joey too will miss you. give it a couple of weeks and lets see what happens.

i'll try to throw out a new post.

    rick.

What kinds of topics are you missing. What types of discussion have faded away?

Traditionally the website and forum is least active durring the summer. We peak out durring the winter then start slowing up a bit in April again. Its been that way for the last 5 years. So maybe we'll see another upturn this fall.

I am sorry if you are bored with the topics as of late. My only suggestion is to seed some questions in the plumbing forum or you could try visiting less often and it will appear there is more activity (hope you dont take this route )

If there is anything I can do let me know. The forum will always have DIYers as well as Professional Pipe Workers. If we never took on woodworking and power tools I doubt this forum would have 1000 members at this point.

Maybe we have fewer discussions because we have answered all the questions and solved all the problems of the universe, or at least the construction universe.

          Obviously we're the best.

Dog, Hope you will reconsider and hang around. I have been busy of late with work and school (I teach some locally and also taking college classes myself). We are ramping up for an outage on one of the units in the next few days, then will be working 6 or 7 12s with occasional OT on top of that for the next couple weeks.

I have been in here with woodworking comments cause that is my hobby, but yes the plumbing side of the forum has slowed a bit, that doesn't mean its time to say goodbye.

I will try to remember to (as Rick would so colorfully put it) throw a stick now and then for you to fetch :-)

Rick, you can use the "Today's Posts" lick in the Quick Links drop down to see postings for the past 24 hours. That way if the Boss has already logged in as under your alias you can see recent posts.

Yeap I've been out of town working in Laughlin and my hotel does not have Internet access beyond dial-up.

I think part of what dog might be saying is you can only reply to so many questions regarding the switch on a ridgid sump pump. Still this forum is only going to be as entertaining as we make it.

I figure if nothing else comes out of this forum it will be that I showed Rick the value of sectional machines.

so what am i going to do with my 2-k7500 and 3-k750 machines

i even went out and purchased more 1.25'' sectional cable for my general #88 machine. instead of feeding the cable by hand. this machine is like a 3 wheel cart the size of a gas gardners edger. you start off feeding cable into the c/o opening and then attach the 10' sections onto the front of the motor. turn on the machine and it will start to self feed into the pipe. it does this as the cable is like a large screw/ open wind. the cart is just rolling towards the c/o. add another 10' and continue.

mark, didn't i show you the value of having more than 1 camera and locator

got to go, have a sewer-oscopy to get to this morning.

so you've been watching over the forums, till i dropped your name

                    I wonder why?

I read a few threads every couple of months, than quietly leave.

why would someone visit a hostile home in the neighborhood?

I may be an FNG to the forum but I have been lurking for years. This place is dying, how do we get more people to loosen up and post. I remember when I started reading the forumit was jumping. I may not be a plumber by trade but the knowledge on the board is AMAZING. Please everybody keep the board alive.

the forum is not going anywhere. it hasn't left. dog was the one that left, but now he is back and not barking as much. a couple of weeks in the pound with the big dogs mellowed him out.

In my opinion there are alot of people using this forum for information. But there are few who actually post. I think some may not have what they feel are good writing skills, so the are not willing to get involved. Others, I think, are afraid that someone may not agree with them.

I wish alot of you lurkers would get a little more involved. If you want to keep it informative, we need more than a handfull of participants. Don't worry about being wrong or how well you write. Look, Rick still hasn't figured out how to use the capital button on his keyboard, but he is one of the most valued contributers.

This forum is the best I've seen on plumbing technical questions. Let's keep it going.

ps. I'm glad you decided to participate. As a certified welder you are a welcome addition. Specialists bring a larger pool of expertise.
