    OSC, might be interesting to have a shop ceramicoat a small chunk of CI and put it in your shop. If it doesn't rust you may have a solution. Question is, can the coater apply the coat evenly enough to withstand the tolerances of flatness on the table top. And while your headers may still look like new, they haven't been exposed to miles of white oak being dragged across them. I'd be interested to see if the ceramicoat can withstand the friction. Now a solid ceramic top, milled to perfect flatness...just don't drop a hammer on it. Note, there were car companies working on ceramic engine blocks more than a decade ago, and they were replacing...... cast iron.
