  • 18v battery problem

I was using my 18v hammer drill yesterday and it suddenly stopped. I changed batteries and it worked fine. The original battery will not even activate the charger. Is it shorted out or what?

    Re: 18v battery problem

If the bum battery is several years old it more than likely has an open cell. The charger will see an open circuit. About how old is the battery and what brand? If necessary, you might look up a place called Batteries Plus which is a chain. They do rebuilding of battery packs and it costs less than buying a new battery. Maybe it's still under warrenty and you can get a FREE new battery.

The Ridgid battery came in the four piece set I purchased in Dec. of 2005. Must I take it to a Ridgid service center or can I return it to Home Depot for an exchange?

If the unit is three years old or less you can get a new battery under warranty. They have a fusable link in them that burns.
