  • Shopsmith at HD?

I was over ay my local HD (Ohio) this Sunday hoping to take a look at the new MSUV (no luck). Much to my surprise, prominently displayed at the front of the tool area was a Shopsmith with a note of when demos were going to be held. Not sure of the significance of this, but I did scratch my head a bit in relation to some other threads that reported a de-emphasis by HD of display models of the larger power tools.

    Interesting.

Maybe that's the idea of getting rid of the display models. We wouldn't want anyone raising the question that all of the floor model tools, collectively, cost less than the ShopSmith, now would we?

I've been to my local HD several times, on weekends, and there were reps from ShopSmith giving demos of the tool and selling them. In fact on 1 day I witnessed the sale of 3 right after a demo. I have my dads that he bought in 92. The only use I have for it is, as a lathe or horizontal drill.
If at first you don't succeed, try reading the owners manual.

I have an old SS from the '40's I want to recondition to use as a lathe. Hopefully soon I'll get on that project!!

I've seen them at HD before, too.
I put it all back together better than before. There\'s lots of leftover parts.

For those interested there are two great Shopsmith forums.
http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/ which is the offical Shopsmith forum.
          http://www.ssug.org/ is the other one.

There is a third on Yahoo but I would rather have teeth pulled than mess with a Yahoo group.

          http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SSusers

They are excellent for how to information and guys often swap parts and things to rebuild the old machines.

Cool. The Shopsmith has a cult following.
