There were 3 different 18 volt batteries. All of them are compatible. They started out at 1.4mAh, then went to 1.9mAh (MaxHC), finally Ridgid released the Max2.5 (2.5mAh.) I've seen both the MaxHC and Max2.5's at HomeDepots. The Max2.5 wasn't priced much higher so it is a better deal with 30% more power.

        Re: 18V max batteries

I strongly suggest you go with the newer 18V 2.5AH battery.
The tool will run longer, and the existing chargers can handle them no problem.

The best prices are found on E-BAY
Just be sure they are "new" and not refurbished.

Although a rebuilt/refurbished battery will also work and run well. The only issue may be who refurbished it? If they are factory/Ridgid refurbished you may get an excellent deal.

Prices can vary from about $40.00 each to $65.00 each plus shipping.
Add the shipping expense to your bid and you may get an excellent deal.

I saw them at the 'Depot for $99 CDN each. I bought off ebay though - half the price.

I'm still using my 2 4 year old original batteries plus two I bought 2 years ago. I'm impressed.

Definitely eBay. I scored one pretty cheap. Can't register it under the LSA, however.

The cost of batteries on ebay is so much better that the LSA doesn't really matter. You can get a replacement for about half the price of a retail one. Pretty much the same as wearing down a battery and hoping they replace it under the LSA. You end up paying about the same.
