  • 14" bandsaw questions

    Hi. First time poster. I have a Ridgid 14" bandsaw. I use it to cut bow staves out of quartered trees. I'm ripping wood about 2" thick and about 6 feet long. I'm using a 1/2 inch blade.

    The bandsaw seems to dog out almost immediately when cutting. I have to constantly back the piece up, and move it forward again. So I end up cutting in 1/8 to 1/4 inch increments. Is this a tuning / setup issue, or am I just doing something beyond the saw's capabilities (I'm cutting hardwood, Ash, Hickory, Elm)? I don't mind going slow, but the push/backoff/push method seems to be the only thing that works.

    Also, I've got the blade tracking in the center of the top wheel, but I cant move the blade guide forward far enough to put the blocks right up to the gullet of the blade teeth. I run out of adjustment. How can I fix that?

    Welcome to the forum

    If you are using a stock blade that is the first problem. Buy a timberwolf blade 3 TPI 1/2". Check the tracking with the new blade as it may cure both problems.
