• 13" Thickness Planer

My 13" Ridgid planer quit in the middle of planing a piece. The motor just lost power and stopped as if it had been unpluged. The power source was still good. I tried resetting the built-in breaker, but this did not help. The planer has very few hours of use on it. Looked at the brushes, they didn't looked to be excessively worn. No indication of power, such as a hum, etc. What should I try next?

run a meter on the cord to make sur the cord is not broken internly. also if you have had it less than 3 years(if you don't have the l.s.a.) take to a service center. sadly these are all about an hour from you....

Re: 13" Thickness Planer

This same thing happened to me, although it didn't quit mid-job. I used it to plane a few boards. Closed it up and set it aside. Next time I tried to use it... NOTHING happened. I too tried the breaker and what-not, verified the power source, etc. Drove me crazy for a week.

Drove it 50 miles to the service center in Milwaukee, knowing full well it was gonna be something stupid... But I didn't want to open it up and risk my lifetime warranty.

Sure enough, service guy had it fixed in about 10 minutes. Loose wire in the switch. Kind of scary if this a planer trend. Bad QA! Bad dog!

WJ, I hadn't realized that Milwaukee has moved 22 miles closer to Madison.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the "John" and renamed it the "Jim". I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
