    Re: What tools are needed?

I have found that on many of my projects I use the following tools often.

A 12" miter saw, used on every project.

A circular saw to work on houses, roofing, cutting sheets in the field, etc.

A table saw for quality finish projects, and a dato blade.

A router for that finishing touch.

A kreg jig for quick joints that are strong.

A 5" orbital sander for smoothing before and after finishing.

A 16 gauge finish nailer sure comes in handy.

A jig saw to make curved cuts.

    A bunch of quick grip clamps, 12", 24", and 36" clamps, and several smaller 2" - 4" "C" clamps.

Other tools I use less often but rely on often are a drill press and a planer. I don't have a joiner yet, but that is on my list!

If i were to start from scratch i would get the following.

A cordless drill, jig saw, router a fixed base, miter saw 12 inch, an orbital sander, and a 7 1/4" circular saw. Then later add a table saw, planer, and 16 or 18 gauge finish nailer.

I have been very satisfied with ridgid, dewalt, and porter cable tools.

But craftsman black & decker, and ryobi work well.

If i wanted to save a few dollars I would buy craftsman B&D, or ryobi. If i had money to burn i would buy MILWAULKEE, the best! but expensive.

I have not been satisifed with harbor freight tools, they seem to be rough, loud, difficult to use, and crude.

    Good luck!
