Sounds to me , that you may have a pretty sizable leak in the hose or at the quick connect (s).
When everything is under full pressure after the compressor kicks off and the hose connected, you should not hear any air leaking from the quick connects or the hose. If you do then that's the problem. It should be dead silent.
Did you use pipe dope or Teflon sealing tape on the threaded ends of the hose threading into the quick connects?
