  • Problem with Random Orbital Sander

I have a very high pitch, unbearable noise that just cropped up with my random orbital sander. I took it apart to see if there was an obstruction (no) and cleaned it of all the dust. I tightened the screw on the bottom of the sanding disk to the cam to see if this would make a difference. It only makes the noise when pressed against a surface. What can I do? I am in the middle of a project and need it!

Re: Problem with Random Orbital Sander

I have the Ridgid ROS, but haven't experienced any problems with it so far. It does sound like there is a bearing failure to me, or some other problem with a drive/orbital component; but of course thats just a guess.

About the only recommendation I can offer is to check to see if you have a nearby service center. Sometime in the past year Ridgid updated their service center listing and a few weeks ago I surprisingly found that I now have one that is only a few miles away from my Painted Post address.

Sorry that this isn't more helpful,
